COWABUNGA!!!

So we've recently acquired a couple new pets in our household.... meet Raph and Leo!!

Lol, cute names huh?! Courtesy of our Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle lovin' daughter! Ok, so here's the story...

I recently decided to start walking every morning for some good ol' exercise and our trek takes us down to the park here in Preston Lakes. We walk there, around the pond, then stop to play for a while and head back, very nice... well on our first day we began our return trip and right there on the path I saw this little bitty shell with Mr. Turtle all tucked inside. I showed Alora who was beside herself excited and was absolutley taking this "ninjda tuwtle", whom she at first wanted to name Samson???, home to keep. After getting him home safely and into a little bowl complete with some water and a stick to keep him company she proceeded to change his name SEVERAL times, not able to decide which "ninjda tuwtle" he really was, and finally, due to the red on his head, settled on Raph... which also happens to be her favorite.

We eventually got Raph all set up in a nice little habitat with a little room to swim and a nice dry place to bask. Then she realized that... we go for a walk everyday... and there are 4 "ninjda tuwtles" so hey, on tomorrows walk we can find a Leo turtle, right?! She was absolutely convinced, and I, on the other hand, was doubtful. But as you can see from the above pic, amazingly enough, we indeed found another. Right out there on the same path. When I saw him, I almost didn't believe it but there he was stickin' his little neck out walkin' along. At first she didn't want him though b/c he was NOT a Leo turtle... he was red like a Raph turtle, she thought he would have blue on his head, lol... CUTE I tell you. But after an explanation that God made all of these types of turtles with red spots she was all for taking Leo home to meet his new pal Raph!! Hahahahaha, I love it!

Now thanks to our good friends the Haltoms, we've got them both set up in a nice aquarium with LOTS of swimmin' space and a nifty floating rock. And I have to say both Kevin and I are quite surprised at how entertaining these little guys(or gals btw, it's too soon to tell!!) can be and both Alora and Xander LOVE them. In fact, "turtle" is the Xanderman's newest and most frequently used word lately!!! To top it all off, she quickly decided that on our next walk we could find Mikey and Donnie... bwhahahaha... I think NOT!! We'll just enjoy our 2 lil' "ninjda tuwtles" for now!!! Hope everyone had a great weekend!!

Too cute. They look about the same size as my box turtle, Frank. He's about the size of a half-dollar. What are you feeding your little guys? Mine loves any type of worm - waxworms, mealworms, and earthworms. Big fan of crickets too. If you have any questions about them, feel free to contact me. I used to be a reptile keeper at the zoo, so I know a little bit about these guys.

I love the names of the turtles! I agree, two is just right...just be glad Alora doesn't want to add a "Splinter" to her collection!

Your new little turtles are really cute! I bet your kiddos are loving them! Lily and Cooper would go crazy over little turtles. I just know Coop would pic them up and try to bring them to me all the time!

I was cracking up about the turtle names and wanting to find the other "colors".
Jake had a small box turtle last summer named Jack. I convinced him to let him go after a couple of days in the wagon on the porch feeding him things from our garden. I learned on the internet they are are a lot of work! But those little guys are so cute.

Who knew Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would be popular again? Ty loved them when he was about Alora's age - he called them Teenage Nootant Ninja Turtles - go figure. Loved the pics - the colors pop!

how cute!...if they're the appropriate genders, i wonder if they'll breed! Man, Alora's a much more well-rounded girl than me and my sisters...we were definitely not in to TMNT...but she's into them AND Disney princesses!
